The International Antimony Association (i2a) is the global voice of the antimony industry. Based in Brussels, i2a represents producers, importers, and users of antimony substances across the entire value chain. i2a is a not a profit association and works on the basis of the budget made available by its Members’ annual contributions. The i2a mission is clear: to promote the sustainable, responsible production, use and recycling of antimony, ensuring that this essential material continues to support modern society—today and in the future.
Antimony (Sb) is a critical metalloid element that quietly underpins many of the products and technologies we rely on every day. Mainly sourced from China, this unique material has both metallic and non-metallic properties, making it essential for a wide range of applications that range from lead-based products and flame-retardant materials that enhance safety, to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics used in bottles and packaging. Without antimony, many affordable, high-performance and safety-critical applications would simply not exist.
Discover why antimony matters, and how i2a is shaping a responsible and resilient antimony value chain worldwide.
Our Vision
A sustainable, competitive and responsible antimony industry, contributing to Europe’s industrial resilience and strategic autonomy, where antimony substances continue to be the material of choice for a wide range of technology-enabling, safety-critical and low-carbon applications.
Our Mission
i2a works to ensure the safe, responsible and sustainable management of antimony metal and antimony based substances across their entire lifecycle — from production and classification to use, recycling and/or disposal in accordance with principles of circularity that optimise resource use and minimize waste across the entire production and consumption cycle. As such, i2a’s mission is firmly rooted in product stewardship, supporting the global industry’s ambitions on sustainability, supply-chain resilience and evidence-based regulation. As the global industry platform for antimony, i2a works to promote responsible practices throughout the entire antimony value chain, contributing to transparent markets, stringent high environmental and safety standards, and informed policy-making.
Our Strategic Objectives
i2a works with its members and stakeholders in support of regional and international sustainability goals and the Critical Raw Materials agenda:
- Close knowledge gaps that hinder the safe use, informed regulation and societal acceptance of antimony substances
- Ensure that national and international regulatory scrutiny and risk assessments are grounded in the most up-to-date, robust and internationally recognised scientific consensus
- Promote proportionate, effective and use-specific risk management measures, in line with Better Regulation principles and industrial competitiveness
- Support the antimony industry in implementing advanced product stewardship practices, strengthening sustainability performance, circularity and value-chain responsibility
Through the implementation of these objectives, i2a contributes to a resilient, sustainable and globally competitive antimony value chain, aligned with broad objectives of green and digital transformation as defined by the intersection of strategy, innovation and technology.
