Raymond Devaux, President of AMG Antimony was elected as Chairman of the Board. Mr Devaux replaces outgoing Chairman Hans Vercammen, Division Director Specialty Chemicals at Campine. The Board of Directors thanked Hans Vercammen for his leadership and commitment as chairman since 2018.

i2a’s Product Stewardship program includes a Workplace Exposure Monitoring Campaign aimed to provide relevant1 and reliable2 exposure data to expert agencies and authorities3 in charge of assessing the risk associated to the production and use of Sb chemicals on the workplace. Provision of an appropriate exposure database will avoid worst-case assumptions, and accompany experts and regulators towards the most proportionate and efficient opinions and decisions.

The International Antimony Association (i2a) welcomes the opportunity to participate in the Stakeholder Consultation and looks forward to address any gaps or unclear matters which may prevent the EU Commission and its collaborators to conduct the relevant assessment and reach the applicable conclusion on the need or not to restrict the use of antimony trioxide (ATO) in EEE. i2a strongly believes that there is no need to restrict the use of ATO, for a number of reasons, outlined below.

The International Antimony Association (i2a) takes note of China’s recent decision to impose new export restrictions on a range of antimony substances, including antimony ore, metal, and oxides. These restrictions are slated to take effect on 15 September 2024 and are expected to have significant implications for the global antimony supply chain.

Toxicological studies of antimony (Sb) in its various chemical forms have revealed that high exposure to Sb can yield, among others, lung toxicity. Due to this ‘hazard’, regulatory authorities have scrutinized Sb to assess the actual ‘risk’ related to the production and/or use of Sb substances. A chemical is considered to pose a risk where those producing or using it are exposed to it in quantities above the dose at which the hazard is known to manifest itself. A proper risk assessment therefore requires a good knowledge of both the dose associated with hazard expression, and the exposure levels.

The final version of the United States Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) new Toxicological Profile for Antimony and Antimony Compounds was released in October of 2019. The Profile is impressive from the standpoint of the encyclopedic citation of scientific studies dating back 60 or more years.
